Spinach: Verdil
CERTIFIED ORGANIC SEED, 1 packet (100 seeds)
Spinacia oleracea (55 days) Impressively flavorful, very cold tolerant, fast growing, smooth leaf winter type; excellent choice for overwintering and early spring or autumn crops when temperatures are below 75°F. Verdil’s winter hardiness is remarkable and it has a particularly pleasant flavor. Lovely in salads, the flavor will leave you craving your next bowl. Also excellent as a steamed dish.
Bred in Germany by Brigitte von Wistinghausen with support from Kultursaat and Bingenheimer Saatgut.
Growing Notes
Direct seed as soon as the soil can be worked in spring, and again in the late summer-early fall. Grows best in cooler temperatures <75°F, as a spring or fall crop. Hot temperatures trigger bolting. This variety is best suited for season extension-- it is very cold tolerant but is NOT heat tolerant! Seeds germinate in 5-10 days when soil temperatures are between 32-60°F. Plant 1/2” deep, 1-2” apart, with at least 18” between rows.
